Samsung Galaxy A20s used and refurbished

The Galaxy A20s is a big, uncomplicated phone with a 6.5-inch screen and three cameras on the back. Samsung brought it to shops in autumn 2019 with a Snapdragon 450 processor and a 4000 mAh battery. It's made for someone who wants to watch videos comfortably, read messages in a large font and make calls, and doesn't need power for gaming.

What can the Galaxy A20s do?

The IPS LCD screen measures 6.5 inches with a resolution of 720 × 1560. It's large and pleasant for watching videos or checking a timetable, but at this size text and icons look less crisp than on Full HD screens. Viewing angles are wide, as is typical for IPS panels. Sound comes from a single speaker.

The body is made of plastic, with no water or dust resistance rating. The fingerprint reader sits in the middle of the back. This model has no NFC, so you can't pay contactlessly with the phone – at the card terminal you'll still need your card or a watch.

Processor, cameras and battery

The Snapdragon 450 is an efficient but slow chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores. Paired with 3 GB of RAM, it handles calls, texts, Messenger, YouTube and the browser, although apps open with a noticeable delay. It's not suited to gaming or photo editing. On the back there are three cameras: a 13 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide and a 5 MP depth sensor that helps blur the background in portraits. On the front there's an 8 MP camera.

With the frugal processor and HD screen, the 4000 mAh battery easily lasts a day, and often longer if you only make calls and send messages. Wired charging via USB-C is 15 W. There's no wireless charging.

What should you check before buying?

First, the lack of NFC – if you pay with your phone, this model is out. Second, the 32 GB of eMMC storage: once the system and a few apps are installed, free space shrinks fast. The Galaxy A20s does, however, have a dedicated microSD slot alongside the two SIM cards, plus a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The last major update brought Android 11, and Samsung released its final software packages in 2023. As of 20 October 2026, the phone is unsupported, so new security holes aren't being patched. Over time, some apps, including banking ones, may stop installing on it. Don't use it to log in to your bank or your work email. As a second phone for calls, a music player for cycling or a simple smartphone for an older relative, it still does the job. The Galaxy A20 has the same storage, but an AMOLED screen and NFC in the European version.

• screen – touch, backlight, dead pixels and the state of the glass;
• battery – health and any swelling;
• the three rear cameras and the selfie camera;
• fingerprint reader on the back;
• connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS;
• SIM card detection and the microSD reader;
• speaker, microphones, 3.5 mm jack and USB-C port.
