What can the Galaxy A22 do?

The 6.4-inch screen is its strongest point: colours are vivid, contrast is high, and Always On Display shows the time and notifications without waking the phone. The resolution is only HD+ (720 × 1600), though, so small text looks slightly less sharp up close. Sound comes from a single speaker that isn't particularly loud – in noisy places headphones work better.

The fingerprint reader is built into the power button on the right edge, so you unlock the phone with the same movement that wakes it. The frame and back are plastic, and the body has no water-resistance rating. The model supports NFC, so you can pay contactless with it.

Processor, cameras and battery

Inside is a MediaTek Helio G80 with 4 GB of RAM. This combination runs messaging apps, social media, YouTube and navigation smoothly, and popular games play on low or medium settings. With lots of apps open, the system sometimes reloads the ones running in the background. On the back there are four cameras: a 48 MP main camera with stabilisation, an 8 MP ultra-wide, a 2 MP macro and a 2 MP depth sensor. Selfies are taken with a 13 MP camera.

The 5000 mAh battery easily lasts a full day, even with 90 Hz switched on. Wired charging is 15 W, and there's no wireless charging.

What should you check before buying?

The built-in storage is eMMC, so copying large files and installing games takes longer than on phones with faster storage. The microSD card has its own slot and doesn't push out the second SIM. There's also a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The phone doesn't support 5G – it runs on 4G LTE.

The Galaxy A22 got two major Android updates and ended on version 13. In August 2025 Samsung removed it from the list of devices receiving security patches, so as of 20 October 2026 the phone no longer gets any fixes. For now most apps run on it normally, but banks and services raise their requirements over time, and new vulnerabilities stay unpatched. It works well as a phone for a child or an older relative, for photos and video calls, or as a backup.
