The screen is sharp and colourful, with the pure black typical of AMOLED panels. It works really well for long films and reading. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, so scrolling is ordinary, with no special smoothness. There's one speaker, on the bottom edge, and it's fine for video calls, but its volume won't impress you.

The phone is run by a MediaTek Helio P65 with 4 GB of RAM. On the back you'll find a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide, a 5 MP macro camera for close-ups and a 5 MP depth sensor for portraits. A 20 MP camera takes the selfies.

The 5000 mAh battery is the reason many people choose this model. Wired charging is 15 W, so a full charge takes a while. There's no wireless charging.

What should you look out for before buying?

The Galaxy A31 has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a dedicated microSD spot that doesn't block the second SIM. The built-in storage is eMMC, slower than the UFS in newer phones. With a big battery and 15 W charging, it's better to plug the phone in overnight than to count on a quick top-up before you leave the house.

The last major system for the Galaxy A31 was Android 12 with One UI 4.1. In May 2024 Samsung took it off the list of devices receiving security patches, so the phone hasn't had any fixes since then. For banking and payment apps that's a real risk, and some of them may stop supporting its Android version over time.
