Samsung Galaxy A Series used and refurbished
The A series is Samsung's biggest smartphone family, and the easiest one to get lost in. The first models, the Galaxy A3 and A5, arrived at the end of 2014, and since 2019 every phone in the line has carried a two-digit number. The first digit tells you which tier the model sits in, the second which generation it belongs to. Once you know that, a list of dozens of models stops looking like a lottery.
In this category you'll find used and refurbished Samsung Galaxy A smartphones – from the budget A03s, A05s and A12, through the popular A32, A34 and A35, up to the A52, A54 and A55. There's also the older Galaxy A3 (2017) and 5G versions such as the A16 5G, A23 5G and A26 5G. Every unit is checked by SWOPiFY partners before it goes on sale and, if needed, repaired too.
Which Galaxy A models will you find in this category?
At the top sit the A5x models: A50, A51, A52, A52s 5G, A53, A54 and A55. They have better cameras than the rest of the series, AMOLED screens and, from the A52 onwards, IP67 water and dust resistance. They suit anyone who wants something close to a flagship without paying for the S series.
The A3x and A4x – A32, A33, A34, A35, A40 and A41 – are the middle of the pack. Less power, but still a comfortable screen and hardware that handles messaging, navigation and social media without breaking a sweat. The A33, A34 and A35 are IP67-rated, which the A32 isn't.
Below them are the A2x, A1x and A0x: A22, A23 5G, A26 5G, A10, A12, A13, A15, A16 5G, A03, A03s and A05s. These are phones for calls, messages and everyday photos, not for demanding games. They're the cheapest in the series and often end up with parents or kids.
Why consider a refurbished Galaxy A?
A refurbished Galaxy A costs less than a new unit of the same model, and in this series the difference can be decisive. For the price of a new entry-level phone, you can often get a refurbished A3x or A5x with a better screen and camera. Same money, higher tier.
Every phone that goes back into use is one less device in the e-waste pile. That doesn't make the purchase a fully green gesture, but it's better for working hardware to keep going than for another one to be made.
What should you look for when choosing a Galaxy A?
The most important difference between models isn't visible in a photo. It's how long they get updates, and Samsung has changed the rules several times. The Galaxy A52 from 2021 got three major Android updates and ended on One UI 6.1, while the Galaxy A51 hasn't received any patches since February 2024. The A34 and A54 from 2023 were promised four OS versions and five years of security patches, as was the A15. The Galaxy A16 5G comes with a promise of six Android updates and six years of patches, and the A26 5G six major OS updates. The support period counts from the model's launch, not from the day you buy it.
In this category you can filter smartphones by:
- storage – from 16 GB to 256 GB;
- RAM – from 2 GB to 8 GB;
- colour;
- price range;
- condition.
16 and 32 GB are the territory of the oldest and cheapest models, like the A3 (2017), A03s and A10, and with today's apps they fill up fast. If the phone needs to last you a few years, aim for 128 GB and a model from 2023 or later.
How do SWOPiFY partners check A series phones?
Before a Galaxy A goes back on sale, it goes through a 44-point checklist. Among other things, it covers:
- the screen – touch, pixels and the condition of the glass;
- the battery – health and physical condition;
- all cameras, front and rear;
- the fingerprint reader and face recognition;
- connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC, if the model has them;
- SIM card detection;
- speakers and microphone;
- the charging port and other connectors.
The checks are carried out by specialist companies that SWOPiFY picks through a multi-stage selection process. If a unit needs something, the partner fixes it before listing it, not after the first complaint.
Can you trust refurbished Galaxy A smartphones?
Refurbished Samsung Galaxy A smartphones in this category are used phones. We don't pretend they're new, and we never suggest it anywhere. Each unit is assigned a condition grade – Premium, Very good, Good or Fair – and each grade has its own requirements for the look of the casing, battery health and the parts used.
Your purchase comes with a warranty. With a phone from a classified ad, you're on your own if something goes wrong; here you have a formal way to make a claim.
Got an older Samsung or another phone to hand in?
Trade it in through the buyback programme, and the amount you get will come off the cost of your next purchase. No need to post an ad or reply to buyers, and the phone goes back into circulation.
