The Galaxy A02s is a budget Samsung with a big 6.5-inch screen, a 5000 mAh battery and three rear cameras, unveiled at the end of 2020. It charges over USB-C at 15 W, which was by no means a given in this price range. It works well as a phone for messaging apps, series, navigation in the car and holiday photos.

At SWOPiFY you'll find used and refurbished Samsung Galaxy A02s phones – the model came in 32 GB and 64 GB versions, with 2, 3 or 4 GB of RAM, in black, white, red and blue. Phones that appear in the listings go through a technical check by SWOPiFY partners, and if something doesn't work as it should, they go to the repair shop first.

What can the Galaxy A02s do?

The PLS LCD screen has HD+ resolution (720 × 1600 pixels) and a teardrop notch for the front camera. The large display area is handy for maps, films and reading longer texts, though it can't match Full HD panels for sharpness. Music and film sound come from a single speaker, and you can plug wired headphones into the 3.5 mm jack.

The body has a glass front with a plastic back and frame, and the whole thing weighs 196 grams. The phone has no fingerprint reader, so you secure the screen with a PIN, a pattern or a password. It takes two nano-SIM cards and, independently of them, a microSD card.

Processor, cameras and battery

At the heart of the phone is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with 2, 3 or 4 GB of RAM. It's enough for messaging apps, email, YouTube and navigation, but modern games and lots of apps open at once are too much – the 2 GB RAM version slows down soonest. The 13 MP main camera with autofocus is supported by two helpers: a 2 MP macro for close-ups and a 2 MP depth sensor for background blur in portraits. On the front you'll find a 5 MP camera.

With an HD screen, the 5000 mAh battery usually lasts all day, even if you reach for your phone often. Wired charging is 15 W, and the USB-C connector fits the cables you use with most newer devices.

What should you check before buying?

The screen has HD resolution and a standard 60 Hz refresh rate, so don't expect the smoothness of pricier phones. There's no NFC. The eMMC storage is slower than in newer designs, and with 32 GB you run out of space quickly. On the plus side: the microSD card goes into a separate slot, so you don't lose your second number, and the 3.5 mm headphone jack is still there.

The Galaxy A02s no longer receives updates. It launched with Android 10, moved to Android 11 and then 12 with One UI 4.1, and in January 2025 Samsung ended security patch support for it. The phone still works, but new vulnerabilities won't be fixed, and banking and payment apps may stop supporting it over time. It's best as a second phone, a device for a child to keep in touch with their parents, or a big, easy-to-read phone for an older relative. The Galaxy A02 looks almost the same but has a weaker quad-core MediaTek processor, a microUSB port and 7.75 W charging.

You can filter Galaxy A02s units by:

  • storage – 32 GB or 64 GB;
  • RAM – 2 GB, 3 GB or 4 GB;
  • colour;
  • price range;
  • condition.

The best choice is the 64 GB version with 4 GB of RAM – extra RAM makes the biggest difference to smoothness when switching between apps. Only take the 2 GB version if the phone is mainly for calls and one messaging app.

How does the technical check work?

Before a Galaxy A02s goes on sale as refurbished, it goes through a 44-point checklist, including:

  • screen – touch response, brightness, dead pixels and scratches;
  • battery – cell health and no deformation;
  • the front camera and all three rear cameras;
  • power and volume buttons;
  • connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE;
  • detection of both SIM cards and the microSD card;
  • speaker, microphone, headphone jack and USB-C port.

Can you trust a refurbished Galaxy A02s?

A refurbished Samsung Galaxy A02s from SWOPiFY is a used phone that SWOPiFY partners have checked and, where needed, sent for repair. It isn't new – and we never suggest that it is.

Your purchase is covered by a warranty. The battery health and the appearance of the body of every unit are described by one of four grades: Premium, Excellent, Good or Fair. So you know in advance whether you'll get a phone with practically no marks or a cheaper one with visible signs of use.
