What can the Pixel 9 Pro do?

The Super Actua display is a 1280 × 2856 LTPO OLED that adjusts its own refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. With a still image it slows down and saves battery; when you scroll, it speeds up. Peak brightness reaches 3000 nits. Sound comes from two stereo speakers, and the body, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an aluminium frame, is rated IP68.

The fingerprint reader is ultrasonic and sits under the screen, and a glance at the front camera is also enough to unlock it. Next to the cameras Google fitted a temperature sensor, which lets you measure, for example, how warm a drink is. The phone also has a UWB chip for precisely measuring the distance to other devices. The Titan M2 chip guards your login details and encryption keys, and contactless payments and eSIM work without a hitch.

Processor, cameras and battery

Performance comes from the Tensor G4 with 16 GB of RAM, which gives you plenty of headroom for lots of open apps. On the back there are three cameras: a 50 MP main, a 48 MP ultrawide and a 48 MP telephoto, and Super Res Zoom goes all the way up to 30×. Selfies are handled by a 42 MP camera with autofocus. Video Boost processes your recordings in Google's cloud and pulls more detail out of night videos, while Add Me and Magic Editor help with group shots and editing.

The battery is 4700 mAh. With a cable the phone charges at up to 27 W, and with a 45 W charger you'll get back about 55% in half an hour. Without a cable you get up to 21 W if you put it on the second-generation Pixel Stand, and up to 12 W on a typical Qi charger.

What should you check before buying?

The Pixel 9 Pro has no 3.5 mm headphone jack and no microSD card reader, and Google didn't include a charger in the box. Video Boost needs an internet connection and a backup to Google Photos, so the enhanced video doesn't appear straight away. Google also points out that some AI features aren't available in all countries and languages. In reviews, the Tensor G4 scored lower than rival flagships in performance benchmarks and could get warm during long gaming sessions.

Support is long: Google promised seven years of system and security updates from the moment the Pixel 9 Pro arrived in the US Google Store in September 2024, so patches will keep coming until 2031. The model launched with Android 14 and has been running Android 17 since June 2026.
