Google Pixel 8A used and refurbished

The Google Pixel 8a is the cheapest model in the Pixel 8 series, yet it got the same chip as the pricier versions – the Tensor G3. It has a 6.1-inch screen, a matte composite back and rounded edges, and the whole thing weighs 188 g. You can comfortably use it with one hand and slip it into even a smaller pocket.

At SWOPiFY you'll find used and refurbished Google Pixel 8a phones in 128 GB and 256 GB versions, in obsidian, porcelain, blue and aloe. SWOPiFY's partners give every unit a technical check before it goes on sale. Phones with anything not quite right are repaired first.

What can the Pixel 8a do?

The Actua display is a 1080 × 2400 OLED with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, so scrolling through messages and web pages feels smooth. Google quotes 2000 nits of peak brightness, and compared with the Pixel 7a the screen is 40% brighter. Two speakers play in stereo. Gorilla Glass 3 protects the front, the frame is aluminium, and the body is IP67-rated – it keeps dust out and can handle being submerged to 1 m for 30 minutes.

Google put an optical fingerprint sensor under the screen. Face unlock has the same top security class as on the Pixel 8, so it also works in compatible banking apps. The Titan M2 chip guards your lock screen code and encryption keys. You pay contactless via NFC and keep a second number on an eSIM next to the nano SIM.

Processor, cameras and battery

Here the Tensor G3 is paired with 8 GB of RAM. Messaging apps, navigation, banking and the camera all run without stuttering. On the back there are two cameras: a 64 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 13 MP ultrawide. With no telephoto, you're left with digital zoom – Super Res Zoom up to 8×. The 13 MP front camera has a wide angle, so a group selfie doesn't mean stretching your arm out as far as it'll go. Best Take, Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur and Night Sight are all on board, and Circle to Search lets you circle something on the screen and search for it straight away.

The battery is 4492 mAh, and in Android Authority's tests it lasts through most days, though it won't stretch into a second one. Wired, the Pixel 8a charges at 18 W – to 50% in about 32 minutes and to full in about 100 minutes. Wireless charging runs at 7.5 W, so a charging pad works best overnight.

What should you keep in mind before buying?

Gorilla Glass 3 is an older generation of glass and scratches more easily, so a screen protector film or glass isn't overkill. There's no 3.5 mm jack or microSD slot, and the charger had to be bought separately. IP67 also means one step less water protection than the IP68 on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. The availability of some AI features depends on your country and language.

When it comes to updates, the Pixel 8a comes out best in the series: Google committed to seven years of Android updates and security patches from May 2024, when the Pixel 8a went on sale in the US Google Store. Fixes are due to keep coming until May 2031, and since June 2026 the phone can run Android 17. If you'd rather have a glass back, IP68 and faster charging – up to 27 W wired and up to 18 W wireless – consider the Pixel 8.

You can filter Pixel 8a handsets by:

  • storage – 128 GB or 256 GB;
  • RAM – 8 GB;
  • colour;
  • price range;
  • condition.

With slow charging, battery health matters a lot, because every top-up during the day takes longer. So check how the condition grade describes the battery.

What does the technical check involve?

Before a Pixel 8a goes on sale as refurbished, it goes through a 44-point checklist, including:

  • display – touch, brightness, pixels and scratches on the glass;
  • battery – wear and any swelling or deformation;
  • 64 MP main camera, ultrawide and front cameras;
  • biometrics – fingerprint sensor and face scan with the front camera;
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC modules;
  • SIM card slot and eSIM profile;
  • both speakers, microphones, USB-C and charging on a Qi pad.

Can you trust a refurbished Pixel 8a?

A refurbished Google Pixel 8a from SWOPiFY is a used phone – checked by SWOPiFY's partners and repaired if there was any need. We don't offer it as new and we never mislead you on that point.

Your purchase comes with a warranty. Every unit gets one of four grades that describe its body and battery: Premium, Excellent, Good or Fair. The composite back is easy to hide in a case, so a handset in Good condition can be a sensible choice if you're watching every penny.
