The Galaxy A05s looks modest, but it has something cheap phones often lack: a sharp Full HD+ screen refreshing at 90 Hz. That makes scrolling through web pages and chat lists smoother and photos clearer. What can the Galaxy A05s do?

The PLS LCD panel is 6.7 inches with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. Letters are clear even in a small font, and films on streaming services look better than on HD screens. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is still there, so wired headphones plug in without an adapter.

The back and frame are plastic, and the screen is covered with glass. The phone weighs 194 g. The fingerprint reader sits in the power button – you rest your thumb where you're holding the phone anyway, and the screen unlocks straight away. NFC lets you pay with your phone in shops and on public transport.

Processor, cameras and battery

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 680 with 4 or 6 GB of RAM, depending on the unit. Messaging apps, email, maps, your banking app and social media run without much stuttering, although switching between lots of apps means a short wait. Simple games will run; demanding titles won't. On the back there are three cameras: a 50 MP main camera and two 2 MP helpers – for macro and for background blur in portraits. The front camera is 13 MP.

The 5000 mAh cell lasts a full day. The phone charges by cable at up to 25 W, and not wirelessly at all.

What should you check before buying?

The Galaxy A05s supports only LTE networks, no 5G – in everyday use that's rarely a problem, but it's worth knowing. There's a separate place for a microSD card, so you don't lose your second number. The built-in storage is eMMC, slower than newer standards. A new unit came without a charger in the box, so for fast charging you need a plug that supports 25 W.

The model launched in autumn 2023 with Android 13. It has already received both promised major updates, and Android 15 with One UI 7 is its final system. As of 20 October 2026 security patches are still arriving, but quarterly, and the four-year support runs out in 2027. The phone is fine for payments and banking now; later it will be better suited as a backup phone or one for a child or an older relative. The newer Galaxy A06 has a weaker HD+ screen but gets security patches until 2028.

Before a Galaxy A05s goes on sale as refurbished, it goes through a 44-point checklist, including:

• screen – touch, brightness, dead pixels, scratches on the glass;
• battery – health and any damage;
• all three rear cameras and the front camera;
• fingerprint reader in the power button;
• connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC;
• detection of both SIM cards and the microSD card;
• headphone jack, speaker, microphones and USB-C port.
