What can the Galaxy A72 do?
The Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen refreshes 90 times a second, so scrolling is noticeably smoother than on a 60 Hz panel. In high brightness mode it reaches 800 nits, which helps in full sun. Sound comes from two stereo speakers, and there's still a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom edge.
The frame and back are plastic, and the front is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The body is rated IP67 – it keeps dust out and survives half an hour in water at a depth of one metre. The fingerprint reader is optical and works under the screen. The European model has NFC for contactless payments.
Processor, cameras and battery
The processor is the Snapdragon 720G, paired with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, depending on the version. Social media, navigation and everyday apps run flawlessly, and lighter games do too. Heavy 3D titles need lower settings. The main camera is 64 MP and the telephoto 8 MP – both with optical image stabilisation – and alongside them are a 12 MP ultra-wide and a 5 MP macro. Selfies and video calls are handled by a 32 MP camera.
The 5000 mAh battery lasts all day, and longer if you go easy on it. Wired charging is 25 W. There's no wireless charging.
What should you check before buying?
There's a headphone jack, but the microSD card goes in place of the second SIM. The Galaxy A72 also doesn't support 5G – it runs on LTE. In everyday use that's rarely a problem, but if your operator is rolling out 5G heavily in your area, bear it in mind.
The phone got three major Android updates – the last one was Android 14 with One UI 6.1. Security patches stopped arriving in spring 2025, four years after launch. Without them the phone is more exposed to new vulnerabilities, and some banking apps may stop working over time. The A72 still does the job as a second phone, a zoom camera for trips or a phone for a child or an older relative. Its successor, the Galaxy A73 5G, still gets patches and has a 120 Hz screen, but it lost the telephoto lens and the headphone jack.
